ASU Gammage

Home to countless theatrical performances, Broadway touring shows, historic lectures and musical performances Gammage Auditorium’s stage has a history all its own. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the building is named for Grady Gammage, Sr. who was president of Arizona State University when the building was commissioned. Groundbreaking occurred after Mr. Gammage’s death and was subsequently named in his honor. Never a disappointment, the auditorium is innovative and acoustically nearly perfect. This amazing cultural icon of the southwest is a short walk from the Tempe rental house. Map

Tempe Town Lake

The concept originated in the mid 1960’s; to turn the Salt River bed running along Tempe’s northern edge, into a spectacular amenity. On June 2, 1999 water began flowing into the town lake after two years of construction. The inflatable rubber dams at either end of the lake allow it to function as a floodway when it needs to (the dams deflate to allow water to run through the lakebed). A wonder of modern engineering and an inarguable success story of urban planning, the Town Lake continues to be one of Arizona’s biggest tourist destinations.  Simply hop in your car, or even walk from your rental home to the Lake.
